During the 2019 Columbus Women’s Leadership Conference, the National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO), and the Women’s Small Business Accelerator (WSBA) will present the Visionary and Emerging Leader awards to three local women in business.
The NAWBO Columbus Visionary Awards are bestowed on local women business owners who have achieved success with their businesses while making notable contributions to their community, their industry, and to initiatives for other women in business.
The WSBA Emerging Leader Award honors women entrepreneurs who have been in business at least one year, have worked with the WSBA or attended a WSBA program, and who have contributed significantly to the community.

NAWBO VISIONARY AWARD HONOREE - Denise Doczy- DeLong
Denise Doczy-DeLong is the President and majority owner of Singleton Construction LLC. Founded in 1995, Singleton Construction and has grown into a leading Commercial Construction General Contractor focusing on transforming retail spaces. The company was founded by Ms. Doczy-DeLong’s mother, Nancy Doczy and partner Chris Singleton. In 2006, Ms. Doczy-DeLong joined Singleton Construction LLC as Managing Director and has significantly expanded Singleton’s customer base and geographic footprint. Today the company is headquartered in Canal Winchester, Ohio and operates in 39 states. Singleton is excited about the opportunities in the construction industry to help retailers physically transform their brands.
Ms. Doczy-DeLong is an active member of the National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO), Retail Contractor’s Association, the Builder’s Exchange of Central Ohio, and the Columbus Chamber of Commerce. This past year Ms. Doczy-DeLong was selected for a year-long mentorship by the Maria Sharapova Women’s Entrepreneur Program and the National Association of Women Business Owners. She was also elected to the Columbus Chamber’s Small Business Council.
NAWBO VISIONARY AWARD HONOREE - Eleanor N. Alvarez
Eleanor N. Alvarez, BA, MAT, MAgS is Founder & President of The Ganzhorn Suites and LeaderStat, LLC. She has more than 30 years of management experience in the post-acute and senior living fields as a provider and a consultant. Her areas of expertise include skilled nursing, assisted living operations, facility analysis and acquisitions, start-ups and turn-arounds. During her years working for national corporations, Eleanor was responsible for the operational management of more than 25 facilities. She opened skilled nursing and assisted living facilities, developed numerous high acuity specialty units and stabilized troubled centers. She gained entrepreneurial experience when she opened LeaderStat, an interim management, recruiting and consulting firm which grew from a small start-up into one of the top healthcare recruiting and consulting firms in the country.
Beyond LeaderStat, Eleanor is very proud of her most recent accomplishment, the launch of The Ganzhorn Suites, a specialized memory care center in Powell, Ohio (2016). The Ganzhorn Suites promotes a resident-centered, evidence-based approach for caring for individuals with Alzheimer’s disease and other types of dementia. The center offers a secure, yet stimulating, environment for this vulnerable population by incorporating advanced safety and monitoring technologies and a beautiful, inviting, purpose-built design. Certified staff are hand-picked for their commitment to this population, and residents are engaged in researched-based programming developed by Eleanor herself. The programs and services offered are designed to nurture the mind, body and spirit, so that residents can live fully – no matter where they may be in their own personal journeys.
WSBA EMERGING LEADER HONOREE - Sharon DeLay
Sharon is a creative problem solver.
She has owned her own business since 2002 and is a wealth of knowledge in the HR industry. Sharon holds an MBA and undergraduate degrees in Human Resources, Education, and Communication. She holds her SPHR (Senior Professional in Human Resources), her SHRM-SCP (SHRM Senior Certified Professional), and her Certified Professional Résumé Writer and Certified Professional Career Coach certifications, and is also Health & Accident licensed.
She honed her professional career in the direct sales, higher education, and communication industries. Sharon has held board and committee chair positions with NAWBO Columbus, the Women’s Small Business Accelerator, HRACO, and the Central Ohio chapter of the International Coach Federation. She was nominated for NAWBO Columbus 2015 Member of the Year and 2016 Visionary, and was awarded The 2015 Champion Award from NAWBO Columbus. The Champion Award recognizes one outstanding person who advocates for the growth and success of women in business.
In addition to consulting, and authoring and presenting numerous training courses, Sharon is the author of Career Boot Camp, a self-contained full career transition program, and co-author of E-Cruiting: Using social networking to build your recruiting muscle, not bust your recruiting budget, and co-authored The Inspired and The Determined, two workbooks used for start-up and scale-up business training.
Sharon and her husband have four dogs and care for a colony of feral cats. Something she gladly shares is that she would never make a good employee as she enjoys working independently far too much. Sharon proudly lives in Columbus, OH and adores this city. “It offers a lot for everyone, but still maintains a smaller city feel.” She also misses The Continent, a concept before it’s time.
